Mayor slams DMK for poor governance
Chennai Mayor putting forth figures to substantiate his claims
CHENNAI: Chennai Mayor Saidai Duraisamy on Saturday flayed the previous DMK government for poor governance, putting forth figures to substantiate his claims. The mayor said that in the previous regime the total number of malaria workers was 719 against the present strength of 3,520. He added that the number of fogging machines was also comparatively less.
In his 30-minute-long speech at the corporation council meet, the mayor chose to focus on the failings of the previous regime. To mark the completion of three years in power on Saturday, the mayor also listed out a set of development programmes undertaken by his regime. He said that the number of water stagnation points were also higher in the DMK regime, which the mayor claimed to have reduced drastically.
Earlier in the meeting, the DMK councillors were evicted en masse from the council hall for opposing the mayor when he made his allegations that the DMK regime failed in development programmes. The total number of inspections and review meetings conducted was also said to be less than 800 while the mayor claimed that his government had done around 4,047 inspections and review meetings.
“The mayor has been trying to distract the council by slashing the DMK government with baseless allegations. No civic issues were discussed,” countered DMK floor leader S.C. Bose. The councillor also added that though sanitation issues and hygiene problems had increased in the city, the mayor had ignored the issues by not allowing them to be discussed.
