Communication with students must, says Vice Chancellor
Students receive degrees from Dr Talat Ahmad
Coimbatore: "Interaction is the key to address students' needs. Teachers become role models only through effective classroom interaction," said Prof (Dr) Talat Ahmad, vice-chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia Central University.
Heads of universities and colleges should freuqently interact with department heads, professors, and, particularly, students. They could interact with them even at a cafeteria and address their needs and problems, the vice-chancellor suggested.
Speaking at the 12th convocation of Krishna College of Arts and Science, he outlined the changing and dynamic role of teachers in shaping students' lives and careers.
A teacher makes a name and fame only through efficient teaching, interest, involvement and concern for students' needs. He said development in Coimbatore has been fast and Coimbatore has proved to be a pioneer in industrial development and educational development in south India. It is one of the leading cities that provides significant employment opportunities to job-seekers.
He reiterated the importance of education of women and stated that if a girl is educated she also uplifts the family, ultimately contributing to the nation's development. The fact that women have been excelling academically and holding significant positions in their careers is indicative that women equal men.
Prof Talat Ahmad motivated graduates to utilise their degrees effectively for the growth of the family and the educational institution that has groomed them. He emphasised the need for human values and character.
"It is not about getting a degree, it is important to be a good human being and serve society as a good citizen as well." He stressed that education was a life-long and continuous process and one can come up in life only by putting education to good use.
