Worrying about a flabby stomach only makes it worse
Hyderabad: In a recently conducted survey in the United Kingdom it was found that majority of the women hated their stomach and literally loathed it.
But anxiety or distress will aggravate abdominal pain and bloating has a reverse effect on the sensitive linings of the abdomen.
Both men and women are found to bloat after their 30s, this is because of food habits, alcohol related liver problems, non-alcoholic fatty liver and functional bowel diseases like irritable bowel syndrome, functional dyspepsia, cyclical vomiting syndrome and constipation.
Dr Kiran Kumar Peddi, consultant interventional gastroenterologist at Global Hospitals explains, “The bloating in the abdomen region is due to gas and accumulation of fat in the intestinal region. It is more common in females than in males. One of the prime reasons in females is pregnancy and delivery, when they undergo major changes in their body. But it can be recovered if the right form of diet and exercises are followed.”
The other reasons for unwanted fat around the abdomen are skipping meals, reduced physical activity, consuming foods with high fat and binge drinking. Diet control will help to reduce fat in the abdominal region and this requires conscious efforts like cutting down on salt, eating low-fat dairy products, eating whole grains and also lean proteins. Chief dietician Radhika at KIMS explains, “The biggest challenge is to avoid sugars like biscuits, sweets, alcohol and complex carbohydrates like white bread, pasta and rice.”
