Artist B. Srinivas Reddy will showcase his drawings for the first time in the city
Artist B. Srinivas Reddy has a distinct way of working. For one, he never titles his work, simply because everyone views art in their own way. And he has stuck to that in his upcoming exhibition Swayambhu, where a collection of 20 sculptures and 40 drawings, will be displayed at Kalakriti Art Gallery on November 1.One look at his sculptures and you can’t ignore the different sizes of ‘heads’.
“For me, the head is the centre of intellect and spiritual powers and so I’ve been very intrigued by it,” Srinivas says. The inspiration behind Srinivas’ work is simple — life. He explains, “I’ve always believed that everything that happens influences other things My artwork is a lot like that. I set out with an idea, but over the days my thought process and mindset influences the end result.”
The sculptures in the exhibition have been collected from his work in the past, but the fibre glass sculptures were made this year. But, the highlight of the show are the pen and ink drawings. “This is the first time I’ve showcased my drawings here. I’m primarily a sculptor, so I stick to that. But, I had done a couple of drawings over the years,” he says, while adding, that the art of drawing is slowly dying and schools don’t focus much on the subject. “Which is why I decided to showcase my work, so that people take notice of the dying art form,” he says.
