Naren Yadav, founder of theatre group Kaalpanik, on his journey into theatre
As an engineering student, Naren Yadav always considered theatre as his passion. Instead of opting for a corporate job, Naren decided to pursue his love for theatre. Five years down the line, he has worked with every major theatre group in the city and has also formed the group “Kaalpanik”, which recently staged three of the the best plays from the Skits competition 2014.
It wasn’t an easy decision for him, with his family at first disapproving his choice. “They didn’t understand at first, but later, they understood that theatre was what I wanted to do. After five years of doing just theatre, I recently took up a job, but theatre is and will always be my priority,” Naren says.
The competition Skits will always remain special because that’s where it all started for them. Last year at Skits, the group grabbed eyeballs as they won the competition. “We worked with various theatre groups, before we formed ‘Kaalpanik’. When we won the competition, it gave us a big boost and we decided to take it forward. This year too we were runners-up,” he says.
With over five years of experience in theatre Naren says, “We need more young people who are full time into theatre, to take it up as their main profession, that will improve the theatre scene here.”
