Hyderabad: The Telangana government on Friday launched 100 ‘She Teams,’ women only police teams, to control eve teasing in the city and to provide a safe and secure environment for women.
The 100 She Teams, aimed at zero tolerance over women’s safety, will function directly under the supervision of additional commissioner of police, crimes & SIT Swati Lakra.
“The places and timings where eve teasing is prominent have been identified and marked and are under the surveillance of these teams. Stalkers will be identified and brought to the CCS police Station. Counselling is done along with the stalker’s family members in the police station. The activity sheet of the accused would be prepared and kept in central database and his activities will be monitored daily,” said an official release. “Legal action will be initiated as per provisions of the law. Stringent action will be initiated if he comes to adverse notice repeatedly.
The victim’s name and identity will be kept confidential. To complain one needs to dial the helpline 100 will and lodge a complaint. The identity of those arrested by the ‘She Teams’ would be made public through the media. The She Team has suggested to the government to enact a new law on eve-teasing on the lines of the Andhra Pradesh Anti Ragging Act and the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Eve Teasing Act.
