Hyderabad: As an impact of the recent cyclone that devastated power machinery in AP, the state has gone from ‘zero power deficit’ to a power deficit zone.
As the power supply is being restored to more and more areas, the power pool is shrinking. The power restoration work in Visakhapatnam is almost complete, although the rural areas are yet to get power. The rural areas in Vizianagaram and Srikakulam will take another five to six days to be connected.
Besides the massive destruction of the power supply machinery, the cyclone also disrupted generation at NTPC Simhadri plant.

Since the coal supply from Odisha to the thermal stations has reduced due to the cyclone’s impact, the thermal generation is likely to remain affected for the next three to four weeks.
The overall thermal generation from the APGenco plant has gone down from 77 mu per day at the beginning of the month to 55 mu per day currently. At the moment, AP is reeling under a shortage of 15 mu per day, while only a month ago, it was ‘zero deficit’.
