Spirited Deepavali for tipplers

Average sales touched Rs 319 crore over on Tuesday

Chennai: It has been a drier Deepavali this year with Tasmac outlets recording an eight per cent dip in sale of liquor this festival of lights when compared to the last.

But thanks to the recent price hike, its coffers are slightly fuller.

While the average sale of liquor in a day is around Rs 65 crore during Deepavali, this year the sales touched Rs 319 crore over Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, surpassing the revenue of Rs 310 crore earned this time last year, according to Tasmac sources.

The higher revenue is thanks to the recent 12.5 per cent increase in the price of ordinary brands of liquor and a 22. 5 percent rise in price of premium brands , they say.

“It was actually the beer sales that helped us make over Rs 300 crore ,” said Tasmac officers.
