Bangalore 3-year-old rape: Karanataka CM calls for action against school

A school attendant, who had been detained by police for interrogation, is arrested

Bangalore: Taking serious note of the recent incident of sexual abuse of a three-year-old student in Bangalore, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has instructed police officials to initiate prompt action against the school management.

"The investigation is going on. I have told the police and the education department to initiate action against the management of the institution," Siddaramaiah told media.

A three-year-old LKG student of a private school in Bangalore was allegedly raped by her school teacher earlier this week. The girl was subjected to medical tests on Tuesday before being admitted to a private hospital.

Meanwhile, Bangalore police have arrested a staff member of the nursery school, who was detained on Thursday for questioning by the police.

Earlier, the state government decided to file a criminal case against the institution for violating several rules.

According to police, the school has been booked for running classes beyond the sanctioned limit; it reportedly had a licence to run only classes 1 to 6. But the school is allegedly running the nursery section and Class 7 illegally.

The father of the child has alleged that she was attacked in school. Her mother found her crying when she went to pick her up. The child had signs of fever and complained to her mother that she was "physically abused by someone she did not know or recognize," the police complaint said.

There has been a huge outrage over the alleged sexual assault of the girl student in Orchid The International School here on October 21.

A charge-sheet was filed on Friday in the rape case of a six-year-old girl at the Vibgyor International School in July, for which two gym instructors were arrested. The two have been charged with gang-rape and destruction of evidence.

The case led to large street protests in the IT city by parents and activists and inspired a series of safety measures in schools including CCTV cameras.

Nearly 200 schools in Bangalore were booked for not having safety measures in place and were ordered to make massive changes for the protection of students.
