Children exhibited various models of Mangalyaan and Mars during the fair
Thiruvananthapuram: A rural school organised a science fair recently to celebrate the successful launching of Mangalyaan. The fair, organised by Sri Sathya Sai Higher Secondary School, Vellanad on the outskirts of the city, had an exhibition on models of Mangalyaan and Mars, a talk on the mission and also a documentary screening.
Children exhibited various models of Mangalyaan and Mars during the fair. A quiz programme was also conducted on the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
Former ISRO scientist and present director of the Sarabhai Institute of Science and Technology K Rajappa Kaimal spoke to students on the importance of Mangalyaan.
The exhibition helped provide awareness to students on the importance of Mangalyaan which made India the first nation to reach the Mars orbit on its first attempt, and the first Asian nation to complete a Mars mission. After a 298-day transit to Mars, the Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), also called Mangalyaan, was successfully inserted into the Mars orbit on September 24.
