Panel skips talk on Ashoorkhanas
Hyderabad: The condition of Ashoorkhanas in Ranga Reddy, Warangal and Khammam districts were not discussed by the state-level committee on Wednesday during discussions on preparations for Muharram, which will begin on October 26.
Most of the city Ashoorkhanas have been white-washed, painted and minor repair works have been carried out from funds provided by people.
Mir Haji Ali, president of the All India Shia Organisation, who attended the meeting, said, “Telangana State must look at the arrangements of all 11,000 registered Wakf Board Ashoorkhanas. Works are being done to keep the areas clean. But the real work is repair and protection and no one is willing to discuss this.”
The problem with most of the Ashoorkhanas is that they are old structures and the land around has been encroached or used for housing, schools and other establishments for the weaker sections of the society.
Mir Firasath Ali Baqri, another member of AISO who attended the meeting, said, “The government has sanctioned Rs 30 lakh has for Hussain-E-Alam. Over 2,000 people visit this place everyday during Muharram.”
The GHMC has promised to assign 320 labourers for cleaning purposes. Members have also requested for two elephants for the Alam this year. Deputy chief minister Mahmood Ali has taken note, but a final decision will be taken after consulting zoo authorities and the police.
