Not violated orders, Telangana to water board
Hyderabad: Making its stand clear on utilising waters from Srisailam dam for power generation, the Telangana government on Wednesday stated it had not violated any orders and will not do anything against the interests of the people.
While continuing the hydel power generation even on Wednesday, Engineering in Chief C. Muralidhar in his reply to Krishna River Management Board member secretary R.K. Gupta defended the government’s action in generating power from Srisailam.
It was stated that power being generated from Srisailam reservoir is largely utilised for saving the standing crops in Telangana which depend on power supply for operating pump sets. “I have no hesitation in stating that this power generation should be treated in terms of priority at par with the irrigation requirements.
I may also state that the government of AP is not providing the due share of power to Telangana as per the provisions of the State Reorganisation Act, 2014,” Mr Muralidhar said.
The Telangana government representative had said that in the absence of a complaint made by the government of Andhra Pradesh, it is not possible for them to specifically rebut the allegation, however from the letter to the KRMB it appears that the storage in the reservoir is not getting priority for drinking and irrigation needs.
“I strongly deny such allegations as the water drawn from Srisailam reservoir so far was 60.17 TMC ft for Pothireddypadu head regulator, 5.37 TMC ft for Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanthi scheme, and 0.262 TMC ft for Kalwakurthy lift irrigation scheme,” he added.
