Not all cops will get offs
Khammam will be first to implement CM’s advice
Khammam: The advice by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to the state police department to give a day off to the police personnel every week will not be implemented in all districts of Telangana.Mr Rao had observed that a day off every week would go a long way in improving efficiency in the department, and advised the system in a phased manner so that the police personnel get to spend time with their families once a week.
Khammam district would be the first to implement the CM’s advice, followed by Nalgonda district. The system will be implemented partially in Warangal district and there will be no holidays to cops working in rural areas. The cops in Khammam district, numbering around 4,000, can take their weekly offs from Diwali, as per their convenience.
Khammam District Police Association president Srinivasa Rao said that the police families are very happy with the decision and the police will work with most energy with the system.
Sources said that the state government does not want to issue a GO for state-wide implementation of the system, and so has asked the district superintendents of police to implement it as per the availability of personnel. The police personnel of Nizamabad, Karimnagar and Adilabad districts have been urging the officials to extend the weekly-off system in their respective districts. Efforts are on to extend the system in Hyderabad in day or two, sources said. Welcoming the system, K. Jyothy, a constable said, "I will spend the time with my children".
