Loyalists of mayor bag plum posts
Anantapur: In a dramatic move, the mayor group has upper hand in gaining majority posts of cooption members in Anantapur Municipal Corporation on Wednesday.
The election for it was held at municipal meeting hall here on Wedne-sday. Of five cooption members, the mayor group reportedly got four while MLA’s close aide had to satisfy with one post.
Though Telugu Desam had majority of corporators, internal bickering between the MLA V. Prabhakar Chowdary and Mayor M. Swaroopa has been creating confusion among the cadre for the past few months.
Both the groups were planned to get cooption member posts for their groups and a group of TD activists had also staged protest at municipal guest house on Tuesday night demanding justice for the genuine workers instead of giving in to lobbies.
Sensing the situation, the party district committee president B.K. Parthasarathi had intimated to the party high command to finalise the cooption members.
A sealed cover was sent with the list of proposed candidates at the meeting hall during the election process on Wednesday.
The Commissioner, Chandramouleswar Reddy, conducted the election process. Mayor M. Swaroopa had opened the sealed cover at the venue and announced the list of five cooption members proposed by the party high command.
Shareena, was proposed from women quota under the minorities and Munwar from Muslim minorities. Munwar had sacrificed seat from 26th ward after party leaders assu-red him cooption post.
K. Krishnakumar, B. Shivakumar and K. Chandra Sekhar were nominated from general quota.
Meanwhile, Congress leader John Vesly alleged the Telugu Desam had denied Christian minorities from nominated posts.
