Colleges to track graduates for upgrade

Washington Accord though India became a signatory in June last year

Hyderabad: Engineering colleges will soon have to track ethical and social responsibility displayed by their graduates, along with their career graph to get an accreditation from the National Board of Accreditation.

The accreditation guidelines are being prepared in line with the Washington Accord. Academics say it will bring about a paradigm shift from the “infrastructure based” accreditation to “outcome based”.

To get accredited, colleges would have to maintain records of students who have passed out. But as hardly any college has such records, students may not be able to avail the benefits of the

Washington Accord though India became a signatory in June last year. Under the Accord, Indian undergraduates will be recognised as being on par with those from other countries. Engineers can directly move to other countries for employment without needing to study there prior to employment.
