Telangana told to decide on firing probe

The committee to submit its report within six months

Hyderabad: A division bench comprising Chief Justice Kalyan Jyoti Sengupta and Justice P.V. Sanjay Kumar of the Hyderabad High Court on Monday disposed off a PIL seeking a direction to the state government to order probe into police firing at Kishanbagh of Old City in Hyderabad in which three people were killed.

Gulam Rabbani, an advocate from the city, moved the court contending that the police opened fire on the mob without the prior permission of the executive magistrate.

He argued that in order to elicit facts and illegalities committed by the police it was necessary to constitute an expert committee to probe into the incident.

The bench directed the principal secretary to home department of Telangana state to consider the petition as a representation and take decision whether constitution of a committee is required to inquire into the matter or not, and if the official felt that the committee is required, constitute it within six weeks. The bench asked the official to direct the committee to submit its report within six months after its constitution.
