Mystic Mantra: Fear of intimacy

Osho has advised a meditation that will help overcome contradiction of mind and body

Everybody hopes that one day in their life they will find their dream partner with whom they can share their deepest feelings and open their hearts to.

But when they actually meet someone, their intimacy doesn’t go beyond a certain point. Very soon there comes up a wall between the two, which their love cannot break through.

Once a woman asked Osho, “Whenever I get close to anybody, I get a horrible tension in my legs, in the thighs. And I can’t get close to anybody because of it.”

This is a common experience –– the contradiction of the human mind. It shuns the thing it yearns for. Getting too close to someone is scary because it means you have to expose yourself to the other, and your interior may not be as beautiful as you pretend it is.

But nothing to worry, Osho had devised a meditation for this woman which I thought would be of help to everyone.

The first step: sit in a chair and relax, make the whole body comfortable and close the eyes. The second step, relax the breathing. Make it as natural as possible. With each outgoing breath, say, “One”.

As the breath goes out, say “One”; breathe in and don’t say anything. So with each outgoing breath simply say “One... one... one,” feeling that the whole existence is one, a unity. Do this for 20 minutes every day. Make sure that nobody disturbs you while you are doing it.

Saying “One” with each exhalation will make you calm, quiet and collected. Do not do this meditation at night, otherwise your sleep will be disturbed. Because this will be so relaxing that you will not feel sleepy, you will feel fresh.
