Losses to weaken Congress

There is no guarantee the party will survive till next elections

Hyderabad: The Congress debacle in Maharashtra and Hary-ana will increase indiscipline in its Telangana unit. There is no unity among the top leadership of the Telangana Congress thanks to the indifference of the AICC.

Senior leaders Palvai Govardhana Reddy and V. Hanumantha Rao are acting independently, not participating in party meetings and have been very critical about the PCC and the CLP.

TPCC president Ponnala Laxmaiah says that workers are optimistic that a day will come when the party will bounce back. But there is a feeling among Congress workers that leaders who benefited from the party’s 10-year rule are now showing their back.

Former minister Shabbir Ali who had organised a day-long protest in Kamareddy to highlight the problems of power supply to agriculture is said to have spent a few lakhs of his own, but other leaders did not come forward to organise protests in their districts due to fear of having to spend their own money.

“The TPCC has no funds. The AICC is also not supporting us. We have to spend our money. There is no guarantee the party will survive till next elections,” a leader said.

Though Ponnala Laxmaiah himself recommends suspension of party MP Palvai Govardhana Reddy for indulging in anti-party activities the AICC has not moved so far.

Similar is the case of group rivalries in Khammam district which forced party MLA Kanakaiah to quit the party and joins TRS.

In Nalgonda district also the leaders are not united and each one is trying to blame others.

"There is no action against those who worked against party candidates in the last elections as well as in the recent Medak bypolls. Funds arranged by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah were not spent by our leaders," a former minister from Medak district complained.

It is presumed by leaders that there will be changes in the AICC and that will be followed by changes in state units.
