Visakhapatnam: In a first of its kind revolt against Maoists about 400 villagers of Veeravaram village killed at least three Maoists on Sunday night after a villager was killed. Two other moists were also killed in the same incident but police are yet to confirm it.
The incident took place late on Sunday night when at least five suspected left wing maoists tried to kill J Sanjeeva Rao, a former maoist and his friend Simhachalam, spiritual preacher at Veeravaram village under Chintapalli mandal in Vizag agency, said DGP Mr. JV Ramudu in a press conference in Vijayawada.
Mr Ramudu further said that it was clear indication of resistance against maoists from tribal people and shows to what extent maosits became anti social. He said, Sanjeeva Rao who was once a maoist had last case against him in 2001.
Later he confined himself to villages and started to follow one Simhachalam who preaches word of god in about four villagers in the agency, he said. Furious over killing tribal man Sanjeeva Rao even after several pleas people leeched at least five of them after damaging an SLR, AK47 and other weapons used by rebels.
The deceased Maoists were identified as S Chinna Rangarao alias Sarath, district committee leader, Palasa Ganapathi and K Nageswara Rao. “Two others Maoists were are said to be killed but we are yet to confirm.
First hand information reveal that one body was washed away in a stream and other was taken by family members who agreed to hand over it in police station”, DGP said. Police ruled out possibility of Sanjeeva Rao being a police informer and said that he and Simhachalam became popular as good persons in the tribal villages.
Mr Ramudu said that there was no angle of Praja Court organized in the village before incident. When asked about allegations on police encounter Mr Ramudu ruled out saying police only reached the spot in the morning at around 7 on Monday.
DGP said there is resistance growing among public for rebels and people lost trust in them but are only afraid of weapons in their hands.
