“I” factions of Congress decide to work unitedly
Leaders belonging to the ‘I’ faction decided to work unitedly for the organisational elections
Thiruvananthapuram: The leaders belonging to the ‘I’ faction and the extended faction held a meeting here late on Friday night disregarding PCC president V. M. Sudheeran’s warning against such meetings. The meeting which was attended by Home minister Ramesh Chennithala, Health Minister V. S. Sivakumar and Tourism Minister A. P. Anil Kumar with support from the extended ‘I’ faction led by MLA K. Muraleedharan and his sister and KPCC general secretary Padmaja Venugopal, decided to work unitedly for the organisational elections.
The meeting was also attended by MPs K. C. Venugopal and M. I. Shanavas, former Kannur MP K.Sudhakaran and KPCC vice-president V. D. Satheeshan. Though Mr Sivakumar maintained that it was not a group meeting but a KPCC meeting, it was asked why it was not held in the KPCC office. Ironically, the meetings of the KPCC office-bearers and executive were held on Friday at the KPCC office.
“There was a general request at the meeting that the heyday of the Karunakaran faction should be brought back which currently lacks lustre. The meeting was called to discuss the future course of action in the light of the upcoming organisational polls,” said a Congress leader.
However, a top leader belonging to the ‘A’ faction said that the party had taken the matter seriously. It was unfortunate that Chennithala was belittling the KPCC’s diktat against holding group meetings, he said.
“What was the requirement for these leaders to meet when already two top-level meetings of the KPCC had taken place? We are aware of the so-called secret meeting and a report has also been collected as the PCC chief is serious about the issue,” said an ‘A’ group MLA.
