Rs 383 crore to restore water sources
Hyderabad: AP irrigation department requires Rs 383 crore for the restoration of major and minor irrigation sources and buildings damaged by Hudhud.
The department has prepared a report on the damages to major and minor irrigation sources, minor irrigation tanks and department buildings in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam and East Godavari districts after the cyclone, and arrived at figures for temporary and permanent restoration.
The department said 1,107 minor irrigation sources were harmed in these four districts. For temporary restoration, Rs 28.16 crore and for permanent restoration, Rs 78.37 crore is required.
Medium irrigation sector saw damages to 131 sources for which temporary restoration would cost Rs 16.11 crore, and permanent restoration Rs 31.88 crore. In the major irrigation sector, 499 sources were damaged for which temporary restoration would require Rs 12.95 crore and permanent restoration would require Rs 58.55 crore.
About 50 buildings belonging to irrigation department were damaged too. For the temporary and permanent restoration of these buildings, the state government would need Rs 29.85 lakh and Rs 5.40 crore respectively.
