Cavalcade of 24 cars for Jayalalithaa
Bengaluru: It was a cavalcade of 24 cars that accompanied former Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalithaa from the Central Prison in Parappana Agrahara to the HAL Airport after her release from the prison at 3.10 pm on Saturday.
The AIADMK supremo’s SUV, a Prado, had a special arrangement of two lights that focused on her to allow people outside to see her inside the cabin. Hundreds of supporters lined up the streets from the prison to the airport. They chanted slogans, waved party flags and showered flowers hailing their leader’s release as a smiling Ms Jayalalithaa waved at them. Many followers had Ms Jayalalithaa’s photos pinned to their shirts, while women and small children danced on the streets.
The convoy passed through major traffic junctions like Madiwala and Kormangala, throwing traffic out of gear for over an hour. The entire stretch had been cleared of traffic for the convoy, which reached the 16 km distance in 45 minutes flat. A tight security with over 250 police personnel was in place along the route. The city police kept a tight vigil and regulated the movement of vehicles from Tamil Nadu into the city especially near Hosur.
