Arun Jaitley rejects criticism on stash
New Delhi: Refuting criticism that the Centre has made a U-turn on disclosing the names of those having black money stacked up in Swiss bank accounts, finance minister Arun Jaitley on Saturday asserted that the government’s approach on the issue “is doggedly persistent, not adventurist”.
Mr Jaitley said the government “stands committed to detecting the names, prosecuting the guilty and making them public”, but will not be pushed into an act of adventurism and jeopardise the chances of getting cooperation of other countries in the future.
However, the Opposition criticised the government for not revealing names of account-holders even as anti-graft crusader Anna Hazare wrote to the PM, threatening to launch an agitation.
In an article posted on Facebook, Mr Jaitley said: “We are not going to be pushed into an act of adventurism where we violate the treaties and then plead that we are no longer able to get the cooperation of reciprocating states.”
