Andhra Pradesh keen to emulate Odisha model of disaster response

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu highlighted the need to emulate the model

Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh is keen on adopting the Odisha model of disaster response system. At a meeting with the disaster response teams belonging to the neighbouring state, who have actively taken part in the Hudhud related relief works in Vizag since a week, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu highlighted the need to emulate the model.

“A fire station should have all high-end, sophisticated equipment along with boats, cutters, power lights not just fire engines for better disaster management system,” said Naidu in the meeting which was also attended by, DGP, JV Ramudu and fire services DG, N Sambasiva Rao.

Naidu asked Rao and Ramudu to understand Odisha model of disaster management system and emulate it in the state.

“We have also suggested that Andhra Pradesh should start both fire and disaster response academy and institute on the lines of those in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack respectively, which will help in training the personnel and effective implementation of relief, restoration works during calamities like Hudhud,” said M Nageswar Rao, Odisha state DG, fire services and disaster response.

Around 559 personnel from Odisha’s disaster response were deployed for the Hudhdud relief and restoration works during the last week. The teams arrived in Vizag with all sophisticated and high-end equipment which helped state rescue teams in restoration works.
