‘Sangliana grabbed 6 acres of government land’
Bengaluru: Former city police commissioner turned politician Dr H.T. Sangliana and his family members created fake documents to grab six acres of government land in Bengaluru North, alleged former legislator A.T Ramaswamy on Saturday.
Mr Ramaswamy said at a press conference that in 1979-80, fake documents were created for the land (survey no 22) in Gadenahalli in favour of Sangliana’s family members. “Two acres of land each have been registered in the names of Elizabeth, Yona Pinto and Adil Kamath Pinto, who are the former commissioner's wife, daughter and son-in-law. They are not eligible for sanctioning of the lands, and importantly, their identities have been concealed in the documents, which amounts to forgery. The lands have been allotted to them with the help of revenue officials,” he alleged.
Mr Ramaswamy said that Mr Sangliana misguided the government by saying there was a stay order in the court. However, when inquired, it came to light that he was claiming an arbitration application to be the stay order. “Mr Sangliana has committed a series of mistakes to hide one mistake. He is one of the most respected officials in the state. Doesn’t he know about forgery? If yes, why is he keeping quiet? Why is he not admitting or refuting the charges,” questioned Mr Ramaswamy.
Stressing that each acre of the land allotted to the family costs nearly Rs 5 crore, Mr Ramaswamy said it was before the government to take action and probe the case. “The government should immediately act against such violators and register a criminal case against Mr Sangliana and his family members,” he said. In another case concerning the Shanthinagar Housing Cooperative Society, he alleged that nearly Rs 3,000 crore worth of land was in the clutches of land mafia. “The sharks have committed a daylight robbery with the housing society land,” he said.
“The government formed the society in 1984 to provide 163 plots in Srinivagilu village for people belonging to SC, ST and other weaker sections. However, for 20 years there was no progress, and in 2004, land sharks set their eyes on the land and created another bogus society in Jayanagar,” he explained. Later, it was discovered that members of only one family had taken over 143 plots and were selling to others.
“The present value of the land is nearly Rs 3,000 crore. The lands have been grabbed in a pre-planned and systematic manner. Government officials are hand-in-glove with private builders. The government should form special committees to crack a whip against the erring officials,” he said.
