Dia Mirza, Sahil Sangha tie the knot
A stunning Dia Mirza finally wed her beau Sahil Sangha in New Delhi on Saturday. Dia’s close friend Boman Irani, who was to do Dia’s kanyadaan, missed the ceremony as he had to stay back in Mumbai due to professional commitments.
Dressed in an unusual beige and green wedding outfit by Ritu Kumar, compliemented with a traditional jhoomar and a heavy green stone kalgi neckpiece, the 32-year-old radiant bride said, “I am from Hyderabad and since I am not getting married in Hyderabad I wanted to have a touch of my city.
So what I am wearing is a traditional Hyderabadi joda and yes, the colours are not traditional for a bride. Even my mehendi is not the typical heavy look, it is a simple, small design. That’s because I am a very unconventional bride!”
As a fitting foil to his bride, Sahil wore a subtle beige and white achkan by Raghuvendra Rathore and an off-white safa (turban).
Raghuvendra, who flew in from Jodhpur, especially for the wedding, said, “Sahil is a wonderful person and when a bridegroom wants a very understated look I am happy to do it for him.”
For the reception which was held an hour after the wedding, Dia changed into a lehenga ensemble by Nikhil and Shantanu. Dia wore a soft peach silk lehenga with old-world zari embroidery on the border.
Her blouse was a hand-woven brocade specially designed for her. The dupatta was draped to give a feeling of a half-sari. This was in net with a French knot embroidery in dull copper tones.
Nikhil said, “The outfit was inspired by Dia’s pristine beauty and her soft nature. Therefore, I used colours like peach and gold.”
The wedding was a private affair and was solemnised with Arya Samaj rituals. It was a Vedic wedding with the decor all in white, accentuated with candles and flowers and the food was vegetarian multicuisine.
Only close friends and family attended the wedding. Among those present were Sushmita Sen, Lara Dutta, Raju Hirani, Sophie Choudhury, Zayad Khan, Cyrus Sahukar and Aditi Rao Hydari.
The wedding rituals had been spread over the last four days in New Delhi, followed by the couple tying the knot at a farmhouse in Chattarpur.
The wedding was planned by the couple themselves with Dia choreographing and dancing to Aao Huzoor and Bole Choodiyan for Sahil at their sangeet ceremony.
