Water bill defaulters to face Board’s heat

Water Board authorities have now prepared a list of defaulters in 150 sections
Hyderabad: After shaming major bill defaulters by updating their names and photographs on public domain, the Water Board authorities have now prepared a list of defaulters in 150 sections that include non-slum areas.
In areas like Banjara Hills and SR Nagar, the authorities have started the disconnection process for more than 700 defaulters who haven’t paid their bills for the last two years and who have already been issued red notices.
The Water Board director, P.S. Suryanarayana, said, “This month, so far over, 136 connections have been cut. This was done for those who did not turn up even after they were served red notices. Red notices have also been served to consumers who have dues of Rs 10,000 and more.”
While the defaulters in non-slum areas are being served red notices (where non-payment in seven days leads to disconnection), those in slum areas are being given oral warnings.
Water Board officials have been directed to step up the collection process of penalties to fund pending projects like Krishna Phase-III and Godavari Phase-I.
Forming four vigilance task force teams by the Water Board to act against illegal connections and collect dues and penalties is paying off.
Over Rs 40 lakh has been collected towards penalties in a one week and over 136 connections have been snapped for not paying dues. There has been an increase in the due payments and also volunteer regularisation by consumers. The task force members will conduct regular inspections and take action against illegal connections.
