Parts of Vizag still in dark

Lack of coordination between field staff and officials clearly visible
Visakhapatnam: Lack of coordination and sluggishness in relief activities were found to be the reasons for delay in power supply restoration in Vizag city. Though officials expected that at least 80% of power supply would restore by Saturday, there is no such possibility since at least 20 to 30% of residential areas have not got power till now. Though the Chief Minister is directly monitoring the relief activities in the city, there has been no change in the attitude of field-level staff.
Senior officials who monitor the restoration activity also admit that lack of coordination has been haunting the activities and hence the progress is discouraging. EPDCL deployed huge force of officers, technical personnel and contract employees from other discoms. But, there has been lack in coordination among field-level staff and hence many residential areas were witnessing fallen trees, electric poles and damaged conductor on streets even after seven days of the disaster.
“Though we have been working hard there was no cooperation from local staff members. In such circumstances, we are discouraged with the activity. We don’t have adequate facilities and still committed to restore power for the sake of anxious consumers,” said an official from Guntur district.
Many areas in the city were waiting for power supply restoration activity. No initial steps such as debris clearance, clearing damaged conductor and poles, and replacing new material have been taken up so far. Even posh colonies such as MVP, Lawson’s Ba, and others also witness piled up debris on the fallen electric poles.
