Onset of winter may be delayed

The temperatures this year are on an average 2 degrees above normal
Hyderabad: It’s already mid-October and there is no sign of temperatures falling. Met officials said that winter this year will be delayed by over a week. The temperatures this year are on an average two degrees above normal.
Maximum temperatures are rising as the South West monsoon has withdrawn and this has resulted in a heat wave. But the weather systems usually triggered by the NE monsoon that herald the arrival of winter is likely only in the first week of November.
“The North East monsoon and its weather systems will bring rains only to south coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Telangana will not get much rain during this season. Some weather systems which move from west to east during this time will lower temperatures and that can lead to cold waves. A fall in the temperature by five degrees is expected. The temperature dip during winter depends on how many systems are coming from the East or North West,” IMD scientist K. Seetharam said.
Going by the recent Cyclone Hudhud Met officials said that Telangana will have an early winter compared to Andhra Pradesh.
“From the first week of November till the end of February it will have winter. When north India cools cold winds will blow south lowering temperature. Telangana will experience cold wave if there is no rainfall,” he said.
