Indira Gandhi Stadium gets ready for October 21
The ground will be hosting Police Commemoration Day function
Vijayawada: The Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium, which had been neglected over the years, is finally getting a fresh coat of paint. Police and municipal officials are supervising the sprucing work, since the stadium, a cricket ground, will host the Police Commemoration Day function on October 21.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is expected to be present at the function and is expected to launch a slew of programmes initiated by the police department like reorganised court monitoring system, separate ‘dial 100’ control rooms with the latest equipment and the ‘FIR at your doorstep’. Mr Naidu will also pay tributes to police martyrs.
Vijayawada police commissioner A.B. Venkateswara Rao said that the police department and VMC are sharing the expenses of sprucing up the stadium. A pylon in memory of police martyrs is also being erected on the cricket ground where the CM would pay tributes. Police officials emphasised that though the pylon resembles a permanent structure, it would be removed so that there is no damage to the pitch.
