Visakhapatnam: The indomitable spirit of the Vizagites has been visible on social media lately. Over the past two days, community pages have mushroomed on Facebook with the aim to encouraging people to rebuild the city.
The page “Rebuilding Vizag” received more than 1,500 likes within 48 hours of its creation. Techies and startup entrepreneurs of the city are keeping an eye on the restoration works and posting updates on social media.
A trend visible in the community pages is that for many Vizagites, Japan is has become an inspiration in their mission of rebuilding Vizag.
As Japan is known as one of the most natural disaster prone areas including cyclones, Vizagites are taking inspiration from the fact that it did not stop Japan from becoming one of the most technologically advanced and developed nations in the world.
People are also taking inspiration from other cities of the world which have been hit by cyclones with wind speeds higher than that of Hudhud (205 kmph), like New Orleans which was hit by Hurricane Katrina (280 kmph).
Some website pages are also urging people to donate to rebuild the city, instead of spending money on crackers and clothes this Diwali.
