CM K Chandrasekhar Rao asks Arun Jaitley for Telangana tableaux
Hyderabad: The Telangana state government has requested the defence ministry to include the state’s cultural tableau at next year’s Republic Day parade in New Delhi. A Central panel had earlier rejected the state’s proposed tableaux.
In a letter to defence minister Arun Jaitley, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao said that Telangana being a new state with rich cultural heritage needs to be showcased especially during national celebrations.
“This is the first time that our Telangana st-ate is presenting the cultural tableau reflecting the cultural heritage of Telangana,” he wrote.
A team of Telangana information and public relations department officials, led by additional director V. Subhas, had unsuccessfully presented the theme before the defence ceremonial committee on September 29 and again on October 7.
The first theme showcased Bonalu, Golconda fort, Charminar and Kakatiya arch the major icons of the state cultural heritage. The central panel wanted a single theme.
Then, the state government under the guidance of artist Ramana Reddy prepared another theme Bonalu with a Golconda backdrop. This was rejected and the committee asked the government to remove the Golconda background.
Following this, the artist has now prepared Bonalu theme with Hyderabad Rocks as the background. The defence committee has accepted the Sankranti tableau of the AP government.
