‘Dad’s in his own league’

My biggest fear is letting my parents down says Vivaan
Mumbai: With parents as illustrious as Naseeruddin Shah and Ratna Pathak Shah, you’d be tempted to think that bagging big banner projects like Happy New Year was a piece of cake for Vivaan Shah. The actor tells us that his parents have always expected him, and his brother to make their own way in the industry.
“Yes, as an actor my dad is in his own league,” Vivaan said, in a chat with us. “But I don’t think he will ever put in a word for me with any filmmakers. I got Happy New Year on my own merit.”
“We (Imaad and I) were brought up in a very practical way. Apart from the fact that we were growing up in the presence of such stalwarts, our parents also ensured that they inculcated the right values and ethics in my brother and me. My biggest fear is letting them down,” Vivaan added.
The young actor said he has inherited his script sense from his famous parents, which in turn has helped him pick the right projects: “At 24 years, I’ve had the privilege of sharing screen space with Priyanka Chopra in Saat Khoon Maaf and Deepika Paudokone in Happy New Year. How many actors of my age can boast of that?” Vivaan said, before qualifying that with: “But I’m still extremely nervous about showing HNY to my parents. I’m their son and they love me, but they won’t hesitate to point out my flaws. The thought is unnerving!”
