Telangana scraps motor tax on 3 wheelers
Hyderabad: The Telangana State government scrapped the Motor Vehicle tax on all three-wheeler goods carriages, three-wheeler contract carriages, all passenger autorickshaws (four-seven seaters), agricultural tractors and trailers on Thursday. The government also waived pending tax arrears of Rs 76.26 crore up to the period of June 30 2014.
Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had promised to scrap the MV tax following representations from autorickshaw unions, farmers and other goods carriage owners and drivers during the elections.
As per the government orders, levy of Motor Vehicle tax on three-wheeled goods carriages upto GVW of 3,000 kg, three-wheeled contract carriages, tractors for agricultural use and tractor-trailers used for agriculture purposes at the specified rates therein have been waived.
The transport commissioner submitted a detailed report and requested the government to consider writing off accumulated arrears from levy of MV tax to an extent of Rs 76.26 crores up to the period of June 30 for the vehicles, and the government agreed to the requested.
