Noiseless Deepavali for animals, birds at MTR
MTR administration will be imposing restriction on bursting crackers
Ooty: The Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR) administration has made plans for a noiseless Deepavali in and around the reserve, imposing restrictions on the bursting of crackers to ensure that the animals are not affected.Mr D. Chandran, deputy director of MTR, said that these restrictions would apply in and around the reserve, and they had been in place in the previous years too. Patrolling by forest staff would be intensified to see that people and tourists did not disturb rules applicable in the jungle.
The MTR administration was soliciting the co-operation of people living in the tribal hamlets in the reserve and the MTR boundary and tourists visiting places around the jungle’s borders to keep off bursting crackers. The sound not only irritated the animals, but also made birds move away.
This is being conveyed to the people living in and around the jungles and those who are operating hotels, guest houses and lodges along the MTR boundary. Mr Chandran warned that strict action would be taken against those who disturbed the jungle atmosphere by bursting crackers during the festival. Visitors should also avoid parking their vehicles on the jungle roads and avoid smoking and
use of plastics, he added.
