Missing Mumbai girl found after one year with Facebook’s help
Mumbai: The five-year-old girl who went missing from her house in Bandra (east) on June 23 last year was reunited with her parents on Wednesday night thanks to social networking site Facebook.
A resident of flood-hit Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir uploaded her picture on Facebook, following which an alert citizen in Mumbai saw it and relayed the information to the Mumbai police.
The girl, Megha, is a resident of BMC colony in Bandra (east) and her father Ram Jani is a painter. A person called Sheikh Parvez from Srinagar uploaded her picture on his Facebook profile, adding the details she gave him like her age, name and incomplete address.
ACP crime branch, Vasant Dhoble heading the missing persons bureau was sent to Srinagar by flight on instructions from Mumbai police commissioner Rakesh Maria. Mr Dhoble confirmed that the girl was reunited with her parents on Wednesday.
“Police is investigating to find how the girl landed in Srinagar from Mumbai,” he said.
