Hudhud: Navymen face wrath of victims for not participating in relief works

Around 2,000 families at the Navy sailors’ quarters of 104 area staged a dharna
Visakhapatnam: After Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu complained that the Indian Navy was not participating in relief works, top officials of Eastern Naval Command faced the wrath of their own fraternity.
Irate at neglecting them, families at Navy sailors’ quarters of 104 area protested when top ENC officials, along with the Commander-in-Chief Satish Soni, came on Thursday.
Around 2,000 families at the Navy sailors’ quarters of 104 area staged a dharna at the quarters’ entrance demanding immediate relief works for them. They alleged that since they were sailors, officers have been neglecting them in providing relief. An eyewitness who took part in the protest said that women in large numbers led the protest.
“There is no water for us. We are almost 2,000 families here suffering since the last four days and no one was bothered to take care of us. Now these officers have come to us only after we protested.
There is no water available in surrounding areas for us to buy. Since we are sailors they have just ignored us. The water that has come today in a tanker is also not good,” a sailor who took part in the protest told this newspaper.
After heated arguments between a set of officials and irate members of sailors’ families, the angry protestors even tried to overturn a vehicles of an officer. The irate sailors were finally pacified by some officers.
