CPI cadres arrested for staging protest
Protest was organised against price rise and economic policies of state goverment
Coimbatore: Over 1,000 CPI cadres were arrested for staging a road roko in various parts of Coimbatore, protesting against price rise and the economic policies of the Central and state governments on Thursday.
The police said that Communist party of India (CPI) party members staged a road roko in 12 places including Saibaba colony on Mettupalayam road, Gandhipuram, Peelamedu, Singanallur, Annur, Sulur , Karumathampatty. During the protest, they urged the government to control the price hike, declare Tamil Nadu as drought-hit state and provide financial assistance to farmers.
The protesting CPI workers also urged the state government to come up with a comprehensive traffic management plan for Coimbatore.Over 1,000 CPI cadres were arrested and later let off.
