Convert problems to resources, students told
Once every 3 minutes a woman is subjected to violence
Coimbatore: Once every three minutes a woman somewhere is subjected to violence. It is important to be more realistic about problems to be able to overcome them, said RV Ramya Bharathi, DC, Crime, at an awareness programme on 'Violence Against Women', organised in association with the Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science and Bharathiyar University.
She released the documentary film which was prepared by the Masters of Social Work Department students of Bharathiar University which dealt with how women could protect themselves against any form of violence through self-defence.
She commended students for the initiative which focuses on the most real problem faced by society and the need for awareness among young girls. "Convert challenges into resources and do not allow the problem to overtake you," she said.
She distributed pepper sprays as a part of a safety initiative and suggested that the students use it wisely. She also urged them to keep updated on the laws relating to early marriage, problems faced by women, information on registration of marriage, domestic violence and property issues. "Women should fight against all odds and emerge victorious," she added.
