Congress Legislature Party demands K Chandrasekhar Rao to hold Assembly
Hyderabad: The Congress Legislature Party on Thursday demanded that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao immediately convene the Assembly for at least three days to discuss burning issues concerning Telangana state.
Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly K. Jana Reddy and deputy leader of the Congress in the Legislative Council Md Shabbir Ali, who addressed the media at the CLP office here, said for reasons best known to the Chief Minister, the promised Budget Session of the Telangana Legislature has been delayed for over a month.
“You may convene the Budget Session at your convenience, but you better convene at least a three-day session for discussing the present crisis on account of erratic power supply and suicides by farmers,” they demanded.
The leader of Opposition said the government needs to find an immediate solution to issues like energy crisis, farmers’ suicides, crop losses and other related issues and it cannot indefinitely postpone convening the Assembly Session.
Mr Shabbir Ali said that earlier the CLP had written two letters to the government seeking convening of the Assembly Session. Ho-wever, it did not get any response. He said the government still lacks clarity on the forthcoming Budget Session.
Congress MLAs T. Ram Mohan Reddy (Parigi) and Challa Vamshi Chand Reddy (Kalwakurthy) were also present.
He said the lackadaisical attitude of the state government in addressing the agrarian crisis was responsible for the suicide of at least two farmers on a daily basis since the TRS came to power.
He claimed that more than 250 farmers have committed suicide since June 2014. Further, several areas in the state have started facing shortage of drinking water.
The government did not come out with alternate plans to at least minimise the demand-supply gap for power. He said, while the government should have taken steps to buy power from different resources, it should also have taken measures to create awareness on importance of saving power.
