In Rashmi’s latest fight, beaten, but unbowed
Mysore: If she has her way and succeeds in nailing her predecessor Amita Prasad and her husband and additional director general (Intelligence), Ashit Mohan Prasad, a police officer who has the eyes and ears of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Mysore's regional commissioner Rashmi V. Mahesh could well outdo the likes of Durga Shakti Nagpal.
Rashmi, who started her career as assistant commissioner, Hassan, in 1996, has had several run-ins with those occupying powerful posts, but her latest complaint against Mrs. Prasad and Mr. Prasad and how she was targeted a day after the couple formally vacated the official quarters of Director General, Administrative Training Institute (ATI), Mysore, could open a can of worms as she has sought a probe by either the Lokayukta or the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on grounds that her predecessor's actions "caused loss of public funds to the institute and gains to several private entities."
Though she took charge as recent as July 2014, her first letter to the state government with a list of irregularities, misuse of public funds, misappropriation of funds, and misuse of office was mailed just a month later in August 2014.
Sources in the government said besides being an honest and upright civil servant, she took the initiative to streamline the process of counselling, post CET, and even decentralized the process for those seeking online counselling.
During her tenure as secretary, department of medical education, she scrapped the entrance tests for post graduation courses in medicine to put an end to dubious methods employed by students to block seats. She, however, faced the wrath of powerful religious leaders when she decided to rein in religious and linguistic minority institutions. When she was shunted out, she went on leave for three months, but returned only to be shifted out of Vidhana Soudha to her current post in Mysore.
