Mom, son found dead

Dad leaves daughter with relatives and goes missing

Chennai: Two members of a family of four, who had arrived at Mahabalipuram on Tuesday from Ongole, Andhra Pradesh, were found dead in a hotel on Wednesday night.

Mr Anand Babu (40), his wife Sivakumari (35) and their children Dheera Subash (13) and Samudri (7) had checked into a hotel on Tuesday at the beach town and had later gone sightseeing.

On Wednesday evening, hotel staff, who opened the room after becoming suspicious as it was locked, found Sivakumari and Dheera Subash dead. “Mother and son were found dead in the room with foam in their mouths while the father and daughter are missing,” the Kancheepuram police said on Thursday.

Mr Anand Babu, an employee of a petrol bunk in Ongole, and Samudri, were reported missing from the hotel room. Enquiries with relatives of the family in Ongole later revealed that Samudri was safe there.

The police also recovered a suicide note, believed to have been written by Ananda Babu, which stated that no one was responsible for their decision. The letter also urged the hotel staff to bury their bodies as they had no relatives.

However, the disappearance of Mr Ananda Babu has left the police confused.

“On Tuesday night, Ananda Babu and his daughter had travelled in a car to Ongole. He left the child with a relative early morning on Wednesday, asking them to take care of her, before leaving the place in a hurry,” said Mahabalipuram police.

When the police talked to the girl over phone she reportedly told the cops that her parents had mixed poison in soft drinks in four glasses and asked their two children to drink.

“The girl vomited after drinking the poison-laced drink. It seems Ananda Babu had a change of mind and took his daughter to Ongole. But it’s not clear what happened to him after that,” the police said.

The police on Thursday handed over the bodies to the relatives after post- mortem.
