Decision on Telugu-Sanskrit today
Reintroduction of subjects to delay Class X exam
Hyderabad: After engineering and Intermediate, now even school examinations are getting messed up. The Telangana government will face a litmus test on Thursday as top education department officials will meet to take a final call on the fate of composite Sanskrit and Telugu subjects being scrapped and then reintroduced by the government.
Persisting with the re-introduction will mean that even Class X state board exams will be delayed next year and will involve high costs. But, going back again to scrap the subject will mean double U-turn on the same and the government’s image would only receive further beating.
Education department officials have already sent proposals to the departmental heads on the repercussions on the move to re-introduce the subjects.
Logistical processes for preparation of nominal rolls and exam registration for students have been completed already without the composite Sanskrit and Telugu subjects. Re-introducing the subject would mean the process would have to be initiated again.
“There will be lot of consequences because everything that is done till now will have to be carried out all over again. It will be an unprecedented situation and definitely there will be lot of delays and several other consequences,” a senior official said.
Top officials, including commissioner of school education M. Jagadeeshwar and secretary of education department, Vikas Raj, have been apprised of the situation and its consequences. Although they have been non-committal on the stand to be taken, the issue is to be decided on Thursday in a meeting with the education minister G. Jagadeeshwar Reddy.
The decision to re-introduce the subject was made at the insistence of higher officials in the Chief Minister’s Office “without understanding the repercussions completely”, say officials.
“The decision to do away with the subject was taken after much deliberation. But, this decision seems to have been taken to please some persons,” another official said.
If the government goes back on the subject and maintains status quo, it would be a double U-turn on the same issue bringing disrepute, said officials.
