Trigger-happy SI suspended in Ramanathapuram
Chennai: The sub inspector who shot dead a youth during enquiry in SP Patinam police station on Tuesday has been placed under suspension. An FIR under section 176 of CRPC for a magisterial enquiry, was registered against him, Ramanathapuram superintendent of police N M Mayilvahanan, revealed on Wednesday.
"We are following the latest Supreme Court direction in this case. As per the guidelines a case has been registered under CrPC 176 and a magisterial enquiry will be conducted to find the cause of death. Based on the findings suitable IPC sections will be added to the FIR and he will be prosecuted," the SP said.
SI Kalidoss shot dead Syed Mohamed on Tuesday evening when the deceased allegedly attacked him with a knife inside the police station after Syed was called there for an enquiry regarding a complaint against him. The SI opened fire when he suffered a stab injury from the hand of Syed, police claimed.
Kalidoss will be the first police personnel in TN to face a case based on latest SC guidelines. Senior officers including central zone inspector general Abhay Kumar Singh visited the station on Wednesday to conduct an enquiry.
