Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao wants to construct a tank, to be named Vinayaksagar, exclusively for immersion of Ganesh and Durga idols and Bathukamma near Indira Park and divert all nalas to save the Hussainsagar.
He also asked officials to immediately divert polluted water from various nalas that was emptying into Hussainsagar and save the lake at any cost.
Mr Rao, who made a surprise tour of Hussainsagar including Necklace Road, was put off by the stink and expressed anguish over destruction of the once fresh water lake which has supplied drinking water to Hyderabad since 1562.
He decided to clean up the lake with a shramdaan programme for four days with the support of people and ministers.
