Donations are pouring in from the film industry
Tollywood actors and producers have come forward to help the cyclone-affected. Actors from the Tamil film industry too have shown their generosity.
Nandamuri Balakrishna has pledged Rs 30 lakh for the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and also 20 tonnes of rice and some essential medicines, veteran producer D. Ramanaidu has announced a sum of Rs 50 lakh, while veteran actor Krishna has announced an amount of Rs 15 lakh for the relief fund. Krishna’s wife Vijayanirmala too has announced Rs 10 lakh.
Ravi Teja will be contributing Rs 20 lakh, and actors Ram and Naresh have announced contributions of Rs 10 lakh and Rs 5 lakh respectively. Senior actor Nagarjuna has announced a sum of Rs 20 lakh on behalf of the Akkineni Foundation. Actor Prabhas will be pledging Rs 20 lakh while Nithiin will donate '10 lakh. Actor Sundeep Kishan is contributing Rs 2.5 lakh for the relief fund, and comedian Brahmanandam will be giving Rs 3 lakh while Prakash Raj has announced Rs 5 lakh.
“It’s time to share the pain. It’s not just the government’s responsibility, it’s ours too. I am sending Rs 5 lakh pls (sic) do what you can,” tweeted Prakash Raj. Producer Sai Korrapati will donate 100 tonnes of rice, while V.V. Vinayak will pledge Rs 10 lakh.
Tollywood’s leading ladies are not far behind, Samantha, who is currently in the US, announced a sum of Rs 10 lakh from the Pratyusha Foundation for the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund while actress Rakul Preet has contributed an amount of Rs 1 lakh.
Tamil actors have also expressed their sympathies by pitching in with contributions. Suriya has taken the initiative and has announced an amount of Rs 25 lakh, following his lead is his brother, actor Karthi, who announced a contribution of Rs 12.5 lakh. Their friend, producer Jnanavel Raja has announced a sum of Rs 12.5 lakh.
