Telangana Rashtra Samithi plenary, public meeting postponed
Hyderabad: TRS’ first plenary session in the new state of Telangana and public meeting in Hyderabad seems to be jinxed.
Chief Minister and TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao postponed the proposed plenary at Lal Bahadur stadium on October 18 and public meeting at Parade Ground on October 19 once again. This time indefinitely.
Interestingly, Telangana Telugu Desam which planned counter programmes on TRS’ programme dates, missed the target again.
The TRS normally organises the annual party plenary in the month of April, but due to elections, formation of the TRS government, Mr Rao becoming the Chief Minister, Intensive Household Survey and finally the cyclone, forced the party to postpone the programmes.
The TRS initially planned to organise the plenary and public meeting on October 11 and October 12 but due to the Hudhud cyclone threat and prediction of heavy rains in Telangana, Mr Rao postponed the programmes to October 18 and October 19.
Though the cyclone ravaged coastal districts, especially Visak-hapatnam, there were no heavy rains in Telangana. “The plenary and public meeting scheduled for October 18 and October 19 have been postponed,” TRS politburo member and MLC Karne Prabhakar told this newspaper.
Asked for the reason, he parried the question saying the meetings have been postponed due to unavoidable circumstances. The government has also postponed the Assembly Session.
The TRS leadership spent a huge amount for the first mega programme in Hyderabad after formation of the new state and the TRS coming to power. The party put up huge cutouts, banners, buntings, sheds in LB stadium and launched campaign vehicles.
While the exact cause for postponement is not known, the CM, if sources are to be believed, is preoccupied with the grounding of many welfare schemes including the one lakh loan waiver schemes and battling the intense power crisis.
He also flew to New Delhi to acquaint the Centre about the power crisis, pending bifurcation of the High Court and other issues and sought the help of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Interestingly, the Telangana Telugu Desam, which is trying to embarrass the TRS at every step, missed the opportunity again. As a counter to the TRS plenary and public meeting on October 11 and October 12, TD president N. Chandrababu Naidu organised a bus yatra.
But the TRS postponed the meet to October 18 and October 19. Telugu Desam has now proposed a Delhi yatra, to call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the farmers issue, power crisis and other issues pertaining to the state.
“The Chief Minister should immediately convene the Assembly Session to discuss the plethora of problems, especially power crisis facing people in the state,” L. Ramana, the Telangana TD president said.
