30-year-old Man shot dead in police station
Ramanathapuram: A 30-year-old man, taken to the police station for inquiry on a complaint, was shot dead by a police sub-inspector after he allegedly stabbed the policeman in SP Patinam here.
Sub-inspector Kalidoss gunned down Syed Mohammed with his service pistol inside the police station when the victim stabbed him.
Syed Mohamed was taken to the station after Arul Raj , a mechanic, lodged a complaint against him. “There was quarrel between Syed and Arul over delivery of a bike after servicing. When Syed allegedly threatened him with a knife, Arul lodged a complaint with the police. The SI opened three rounds of fire at very short range killing Mohammed on the spot,” said the police.
The incident happened around 6.30 pm. The police said Syed was an unemployed youth from the same neighbourhood.
When Arul lodged a complaint with the police against, a policeman went to him and asked to attend the enquiry by the SI. When he refused, the SI himself went for him and dragged him to the station.
