Film industry in lockdown!
Wage hike row continues and Tollywood could see a halt in shoots until Diwali
Latest reports from Tollywood seem to indicate that there will be no shoots in the Telugu film industry till Diwali. Talks between producers and the Telugu Film Federation Employee Union are still on and nothing much has happened regarding the main issue of wage hikes.
“We are demanding an increase and the producers are not agreeing to it,” says Rajeshwar Reddy, Secretary of the TFFEU. He added that the producers agreed to hike only 10 per cent of the present salary, whereas the federation is demanding a minimum of 35 per cent hike.
Burugupalli Sivarama Krishna, president, Telugu Producers’ Council, says that the issue might be resolved Tuesday. “We agreed a pay hike and we are sorting out the working conditions. It’s a not big issue and we will settle soon,” he says. But he didn’t divulge any details about how much of an increase the producers have agreed to give.
Interestingly, the shooting of Baahubali didn’t stop and is in fact still going at RFC. When asked, the producer Shobhu Yarlagadda said that the shooting is on and he is not paying the new wages.
