Bench tells ACB to file report for both states within 2 weeks

Hyderabad: A division bench comprising Chief Justice Kalyan Jyoti Sengupta and Justice P.V. Sanjay Kumar of the Hyderabad High Court on Monday indicated that it will view seriously the de-lay in granting sanction for prosecution against the officers and public representatives’ involved in the liquor syndicate scam.

The bench was dealing with two PILs by O.M. Debara, a resident of the city, and P.V. Krishnaiah, a practicing advocate of the High Court, against the liquor syndicates scam.

The bench had earlier declared as unconstitutional a government memo of 1999 that practically tied the hands of ACB sleuths from investigating the ca-ses of corruption against MLAs, MPs and other public representatives.

As these orders were pa-ssed in the unified AP, the AP government had sought three months time to file the status report before the court. While setting aside memo, the bench directed the government to ensure steps to sanction prosecution orders against the officers and public representatives’ involved in the scam.

When this matter came up for hearing on Monday, the bench noticed that the government had not filed the status report and dire-cted the special public pro-secutor Ravikiran Rao for the ACB to file a report for both the states within two weeks.

TS told to reveal its stand on toddy

A division bench of the Hyderabad High Court on Monday directed the Tela-ngana state government to spell out its stand on allowing toddy shops in and around Hyderabad city.

The bench was dealing with a PIL by Greater Hyderabad Youth Federat-ion seeking to quash a GO issued by the Telangana government to set up toddy shops in and around Hyde-rabad city.

The bench granted two weeks time to the government to submit its stand before the court.

Stay on vehicles’ GO to continue

A division bench of the Hyderabad High Court on Monday made it clear that the stay granted on the move of the Telangana state government for re-registration of the vehicles will continue.

The bench was dealing with a plea by Rammohan Chowdary, a resident of the city challenging a GO issued by the government on July 17 asking all the vehicle owners to change their number plates from AP to TS through a process of re registration.

HC issues notice to JUDA on strike

The Hyderabad High Court issued notice to the Junior Doctors Association (JUDA) on a public interest litigation, seeking action against the members of the association for not attending to their duties in the name of strike.

A division bench was dealing with a PIL by B. Ravi Kiran Swamy, resident of the city, seeking to declare the action of the JUDA in not attending the duties from September 27 this year in the name of strike and depriving medical assistance to the poor and needy, as arbitrary and illegal.
